insufficient red blood cells for my body's needs.

Lizzie Bell is one of only 700 people in the world with Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a condition in which the bone marrow produces an insufficient number of red blood cells. As a result, she requires a blood transfusion every few weeks. Spending so much time in hospitals has given Lizzie a clear view of the things that kids need to make them more comfortable and less fearful while in the hospital for treatment. Pokes, Pinches, and Loose Wires explains from one kid to another why needles and shots are necessary for many people to live and that everyone has some kind of "loose wire" which makes them medically different.

Donate Your Blood or Host a Drive!
There are many children who depend on blood donations because of burns, injuries, surgeries and more. Just one pint of blood donated from an adult will save up to three lives.
You can help by donating blood at your local blood donation center. Every 2 seconds someone needs blood or blood products.

Get Registered with the
National Registry
Our registry is the connection between patients searching for a cure and life-saving bone marrow donors.
* Make sure the promotion code GIVE is written in the promo code section of the online form
* Fill out the consent form. At the end of the online
consent form, you may leave a donation of any size to
help us continue our life-saving work
* A cheek swab kit will be mailed to your indicated home address. Simply follow the swabbing directions and return your kit in the mail.

Lizzie's Loot Toy Drive
No pediatric patient should ever walk over to the toy chest and be disappointed because there are no toys! Lizzie saw this firsthand and vowed to never let that happen again.
This addresses the comfort of the child from birth to young adult ~ this is about toys, gift cards, medical equipment and staff needs to better serve University of Arizona Medical Center and Diamond Children's here in Tucson, AZ. It is my way to provide LOOT kind of things like kid size MRI machines or teachers specializing in chemo brain or UA Blankets and other Wildcat Gear.
Support our Lizzie Bell Endowment to support Education
Long term care pediatric patients have special needs when it comes to meeting their educational needs, which is why we started this endowment.
The Team Lizzie Bell Endowment will ensure any child 'living' at the hospital I grew up in to have the best care possible.
I did not always like being at the hospital but when I arrived there as a 7 week infant my delicate situation was immediately addressed with the best care a baby could receive. I want to make sure I give back, someone paid for me to be able to have the best, I can make sure it is there for the next child "upon diagnosis".
This is Arizona's Pediatric Research Center, I am proud to
support the other kids who must receive their care here in Southern AZ.
