Remembering my grandfather...
Herman Flores, 82, of Benson, AZ passed away on January 25, 2020 doing what he loved most, helping his family.
He was born to Severiano and Maria Jesus Flores, on October 10, 1937 in Casa Grande, AZ. He graduated from Coolidge High school in 1956 and then went on to Northern Arizona University on a football scholarship. After college, his love of serving others lead him to a career with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. First as a Highway Patrol Officer and later as a Detective. He served the department and his community in this capacity for 28 years. He was also very proud of his time and service with the Arizona National Guard.
Herman lived in Benson for over 50 years always giving back to the community he lived in, adopting other families as his own. He was a good provider, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who expressed his love generously to those he considered family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. He was a quiet honest man who stood for the less fortunate and rooted for the underdog. He will be best remembered for serving his family and community with a quiet, humble spirit and his infectious smile.
He is survived by his siblings William Flores (Betty), Edward Flores, Jessie Flores (Eleanor), Rudy Flores (Lucy), and Margie Salcido. His children Rosemarie Flores Saenz, Kathy Flores Bell (Michael), Herman Flores (Anita), Marilyn Rogers (Larry), Chris Allison, and Stephanie Allison. As well as his grandchildren Alisha Lindsey (Matt), John Bell (Suzanne), Amy Davieau (Michael), Lizzie Bell, Alicia Bell, James Castagnaro, Tommy Castagnaro, Tara Flores, Larry Rogers (Amanda), Brandon Rogers (Caroline), Taylor Allison, Gabrielle Mata, Samson Mata, and Tori Rigney. As well as a host of great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Michael Flores, his parents Severiano and Maria Jesus Flores, and his siblings Lucita Flores, Richard Flores, and Ernie Flores.
A viewing for Herman Flores will be held Thursday, January 30th from 6:00-8:00PM (rosary starts at 7:20) at Richardson Mortuary, 725 E. 4th St, Benson, AZ.
A viewing, celebration of life, and mass will be held in his honor Friday, January 31st at 3:00PM, mass begins at 4:00PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 386 E. 5th St, Benson, AZ
